10 Aug (HS): A mentally challenged mother and her son were killed when a train

slammed them here on Sunday, according to authorities. Omwati Devi (55),

Durgpal's wife from Inayatpur village, had been suffering from mental health

concerns for some time and would frequently walk away from home, according to

authorities.

On

Saturday night, she fled the house again, causing her son Anil (32) to track

her down and bring her home. While strolling,

she came upon a railway track near Rati Ka Nagla station. Anil attempted to save his mother after

seeing an incoming train, but both were ran over, according to SHO Hasayan

Lalit Kumar. When they did not come home until late at night, their relatives

went searching and discovered their dead beside the tracks. Police were

notified on Sunday, and the remains were transported for a post-mortem. The SHO further stated that further action is

being taken.
