New Delhi, August 10(HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended cordial birthday greetings to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on the occasion of his 50th birthday, wishing him robust health and a long, fulfilling life.
“Greetings to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Ji on his birthday. Praying for his long life and good health,” the Prime Minister conveyed through the social media platform X.
Born in Nemra village, Ramgarh, in 1975, Hemant Soren — son of JMM founder Shibu Soren — rose from Rajya Sabha member to become Jharkhand’s youngest Chief Minister in 2013. Though his first stint lasted just 17 months, he staged a decisive comeback in 2019, steering the JMM–Congress–RJD alliance to power with a grassroots agenda centred on tribal welfare and rural upliftment.
His career weathered a major storm in 2024 with a politically charged land scam case that saw him spend five months in custody. In his absence, wife Kalpana Soren entered politics and secured an Assembly victory, reinforcing the family’s influence. Later that year, Soren led his INDIA bloc to 56 of 81 seats, sealing a fourth term as CM.
At 50, Soren stands out as both a voice for Jharkhand’s indigenous communities and a seasoned political survivor, shaping the state’s future despite formidable challenges.
