Jammu, 10 August (H.S.): In a joint inspection by Legal Metrology Department and Food Safety at Fish Market in Gummat area of Jammu city, around 2800 kg of expired chicken meat and rotten fish were seized.
Reports said that the joint team, led by Deputy Controller Enforcement, Manoj Prabhakar and Deputy Commissioner Food Safety, Pankaj Soni, conducted inspection at Honey Fish Company premises and detected huge quantity of expired chicken meat and rotten fish, which were stored in unhygienic conditions.
The inspection team also detected violation of Legal Metrology norms such as not marking of manufacturing date on imported food items, MRP and person not registered as packer and machines not verified.
Taking cognizance of the violations, the inspection team seized the 2700 kg spoiled frozen chicken meat and 100 kg rotten fish besides registering three different cases under Legal Metrology Act and one under FSSA Act.
The seized chicken meat and fish were destroyed with proper SOP with the help of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) team at dumping station Kot Bhalwal.
Meanwhile, owner of the Honey Fish Company claimed that storage of fish wastage led to the trouble as vehicle for dumping the same could not reach from Punjab since yesterday. He maintained that all norms of Food Safety and LMD would be complied with in future.
