Chennai, 10 August (H.S.) : Chief Minister MK Stalin paid a heartfelt tribute to the late educationist V Vasanthi Devi, stating that the initiatives of the Dravidian model government to ensure the right to education for all would serve as a fitting tribute to her legacy. Vasanthi Devi, a renowned educationist and former Vice-Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, passed away on August 1, 2025, at the age of 87.
Delivering his address virtually at the remembrance event held at Tamil Nadu Open University, Stalin recalled Vasanthi Devi's lifelong commitment to accessible education.
He emphasized her unwavering dedication to the cause, highlighting her fight for the rights of the underprivileged and her insistence that education should never be treated as a commodity or reserved for the powerful.
Stalin noted that Vasanthi Devi's contributions as Vice-Chancellor of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Chairperson of the State Commission for Women were instrumental in shaping the education landscape in Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Vasanthi Devi had welcomed the current government's school education policies, particularly the State Education Policy, which aims to ensure quality education reaches the most disadvantaged. Stalin's tribute to Vasanthi Devi underscores the government's commitment to continuing her work and legacy in promoting education and social justice.
