Bijnor,

10 Aug (HS): Two brothers and a cousin died in a tragic accident that took

place on Sunday in Sarkathal village of Shivala Kalan police station area of

Uttar Pradesh. The three brothers had descended into a 15 feet deep well to

put a belt for the pump installed in the field, but all three died due to

suffocation from the poisonous gas in the well. This heartbreaking incident on

the very next day of Raksha Bandhan has shocked the entire village.

It

was told that in village Sarkathal, on Sunday around 11 o'clock, Chhatrapal

Singh (son of Dharamvir Singh), a resident of the village, went down into the

well to fix the belt of the motor, but he fell unconscious after being exposed

to the poisonous gas in the well. To save Chhatrapal, his cousins Himanshu (19

years) and Kashish (21 years), sons of Hari Singh, who were present on the

spot, also went down into the well one by one, but both of them also fell

unconscious after being exposed to the gas. Three people fell unconscious in

the well together.

A

young man named Chetan, who was present at the time of the incident, shouted at

the sound of the fall. Hearing the noise, the villagers reached the spot and

tied the three with a rope and pulled them out. The family and the villagers

took the three to the government hospital in Noorpur, but the doctors declared

them dead. The three fell down at the same time. There was chaos in the village

due to the death of the brothers.

It

was told that among the deceased, Chhatrapal worked as an electrician in Delhi

and had returned to the village two days ago on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

He was married two years ago and was the third among two brothers and two

sisters. Himanshu and Kashish were the only sons of their parents. After

studies, Himanshu stayed in the village and helped his father in farming, while

Kashish was learning electrician work in Delhi and he too had come to the

village on Raksha Bandhan.

Villager

Ankit Saini said that the purpose of drawing water was to prevent mosquitoes

from breeding, but the poisonous gas formed in the well became the cause of

death. He said that today my uncle and my uncle's three sons died together,

this is a never-healing wound for our family. Noorpur police has taken the

bodies into custody from the hospital and sent them for postmortem. After this

accident, there is mourning in the village and the happiness of Rakshabandhan

turned into grief.
