Kolkata, 10 August (H.S.) West Bengal government has decided to appoint more than 8,000 doctors and health workers before the upcoming assembly elections. The responsibility of this recruitment has been entrusted to the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board (WBHRB).
According to official sources, 1,848 posts will be for doctors. Of these, 1,227 posts are for General Duty Medical Officer (GDMO) and 621 posts are for specialist doctors. These specialist posts also include 47 assistant professor posts. A total of 5,018 posts have been released for nurses, including 2,330 posts for Basic BSc Nursing, 252 for Post Basic BSc Nursing, 2,092 for female GNM and 344 for male GNM.
Apart from this, more than 600 medical technologists, 350 pharmacists and 31 radiophysicists will be appointed. Along with this, the posts of audiologist, speech pathologist, facility manager, teachers of pharmacy college, drug lab and nursing colleges will also be filled.
MD or MS degree will be mandatory for specialist doctors, while super specialization degree like DM or MCH will be necessary for some posts. The maximum vacancies in the posts of Assistant Professor are in General Medicine (48), Anesthesiology (47) and General Surgery (43).
Online applications will be accepted from 13 August till 3 September 2 pm. Educational qualification, experience and other necessary documents have to be submitted along with the application.
The state government has said that this recruitment will not only improve health services in district and rural hospitals but will also address the shortage of teachers in medical colleges.
