Washington, August 01 (H.S.): The United States and NATO allies have jointly accused Iran of escalating threats in Europe and North America, demanding an end to its efforts to harm dissidents. The statement emphasizes unity against Iranian intelligence actions that attempt to murder, kidnap, and harass individuals, claiming these activities violate national sovereignty. It highlights Iran's collaboration with international criminal organizations targeting journalists, dissidents, and officials.
The statement, signed by NATO members, including Albania, Belgium, Britain, Canada, and others, along with Austria, calls for an immediate cessation of illegal activities on their territories. While no specific attacks were mentioned, warnings about Iranian-sponsored plots in Europe and the U.S. have been persistent. British intelligence has noted an increase in Tehran-backed schemes, including charges against alleged Iranian spies who surveilled journalists. The UK's Intelligence and Security Committee characterized Iran’s threat as widespread and unpredictable. Similarly, German authorities recently arrested a suspect for gathering intelligence on Jewish targets in Berlin for Iran.
Despite these threats, the Trump administration canceled government-funded protections for several officials previously considered at risk due to Iran's plans, protections that had been maintained during the Biden administration amidst ongoing security concerns.
