Barabanki, 01 Aug (HS): According
to an official order, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Haidergarh Shams
Tabrez Khan has been dismissed from his office as the first significant
administrative action following the recent stampede at the Avsaneshwar Temple
in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, which claimed two lives. Rajesh Vishwakarma has
been selected as Haidergarh's new Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and he took
command of the shrine on Thursday.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi ordered Tabrez's relocation in response
to public outrage over substandard facilities at the famed Shiva temple during
the first two Mondays of Sawan. He is presently serving as the collectorate's
special land acquisition officer.
Although local volunteers and temple committee members would not voice issues
publicly, rumors persisted that Tabrez was not present on either of the
important Sawan Somvars.
Other crucial administrative officers,
such as the tehsildar and naib tehsildar, were claimed to be missing. Vishwakarma
paid a visit to the Avsaneshwar Temple on Thursday evening, when he offered
prayers and examined the temple grounds and adjacent fairground. He provided severe orders to ensure devotees'
safety. Vishwakarma discovered that the water level at the Gomti River ghat,
where visitors bathe before presenting sacred water (jalabhishek) to the god,
had increased, but no safety precautions were in place. He quickly ordered the
barricading of the ghat and gave strict instructions to the revenue and police
personnel on site.
During a joint inspection with temple committee chairman
Sanjay Giri, manager Vinod Giri, and priest Atul Goswami, Vishwakarma evaluated
all arrangements and directed remedial action where deficiencies were found.
He also instructed that a substantial
police force be placed at all important spots within and around the temple
premises on Monday. In addition, the presence of two ambulances is required. A
rush at the temple killed two people and wounded 32 others after a live
electric line snapped by monkeys fell onto a tin shelter early Monday,
according to authorities. The electric current swept throughout the tin shed as
the wire collapsed, causing fear and a rush on the temple grounds. Earlier,
during a program in Lucknow, DGP Uttar Pradesh Rajeev Krishna claimed that the
deaths were caused by electrocution rather than the stampede.
