Asansol, 1 August (H.S.): RPF Madhupur Post under Asansol Division has busted a major vehicle theft racket under Operation Rail Prahari. In a statement issued by the Railways on Friday, it was informed that a bike was stolen from Madhupur station premises on the night of 19-20 July. Based on CCTV analysis and surveillance, RPF personnel led by sub inspector D. Prasad arrested the accused Sunil Thakur (28) on 29 July, who confessed his crime.
During interrogation, he admitted to stealing 16 more bikes from Madhupur, Giridih and Dhanbad areas. Based on this information, a joint raid was conducted with the local police on 29-30 July, resulting in the recovery of 14 stolen two-wheelers and the arrest of three more persons, including the recipient of the stolen vehicles.
The arrested persons, including habitual offender Sunil Thakur, have been sent to judicial custody.
