Bhubaneswar, 1 August (H.S.): Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday advised trainee officers of the Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) to actively enroll in welfare schemes for which they are eligible, such as the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).
He said that when informed citizens participate in such schemes, it fosters public trust and encourages wider adoption.
The Governor was interacting with 83 trainee ORS officers of 2022 batch at the New Abhishek Hall on the premises of Raj Bhavan. Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor, Roopa Roshan Sahoo, was also present on the occasion. During the programme, Dr. Kambhampati held one-on-one interactions with each of the trainee ORS officers.
The Governor stressed the importance of having a thorough understanding of various welfare schemes implemented by both the State and Central governments. “A proper understanding of these schemes will help you guide the public more effectively,” he said.
He suggested that the officials of the Revenue Officers’ Training Institute prepare a handbook on major welfare schemes for distribution among trainees during their training. He also requested a copy of the handbook for himself.
The Governor elaborated on the key responsibilities of revenue officers, including land record management, dispute resolution, and the implementation of welfare schemes. He said that the Revenue Service is one of the most vital arms of governance, as it directly impacts the lives of people.
“As young officers, always remember that administration is not just about rules and files — it is, above all, about people,” he told the trainee ORS officers.
Dr. Kambhampati urged the officers to reflect on their responsibilities and remain dedicated to serving the public with sincerity and purpose.
