Imphal, 01 August (HS): Manipur Police have arrested four rebels, including a self-styled army chief, during a series of operations carried out over last 24 hours across different districts of the state.

The most high-profile arrest was made at Phubala Patton in Bishnupur district, police officials informed on Friday. Moirangthem Biramani Meitei (46), who claims to be the army chief of the banned outfit KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), was taken into custody from a hutment area where he had been staying. Police recovered a mobile phone and a SIM card during the operation.

On the same day, another insurgent—Telem Naoba Singh (29), identified as an active member of PREPAK (PRO)—was apprehended at Khurai Chairenthong in Imphal East. His mobile phone was also seized.

The most significant seizure came a day earlier, when two cadres of KYKL were caught during an operation at Salungpham Bazar in Thoubal district. The duo, Keisham Wilson Singh (18) and Thokchom Sanathoi Meitei (22), had allegedly been involved in extortion activities targeting civilians.

During the Thoubal raid, police confiscated a 9mm pistol with a magazine, a hand grenade, three live rounds of ammunition, ₹5,000 in cash, and two mobile phones along with SIM cards. Officials confirmed that both men were actively extorting money from locals.

All four individuals are currently in custody. Authorities continue to investigate their links to wider insurgent networks operating in Manipur.
