Srinagar, 1 August (H.S.): General secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said that the party will soon launch a hunger strike to protest the continued delay in restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, accusing the BJP-led Central Government of backtracking on its statehood commitment.Indian cuisine recipes

Addressing reporters in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Mir said, “The Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Parliament had promised that after delimitation and elections, statehood would be restored. It has been over 10 months since delimitation, and there is still no progress,” he said.

Mir said the Congress has been preparing for this campaign for the last four to five months and will continue to raise the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir’s residents. “This is not about politicians or Raj Bhavan. It is the common people who are suffering-because their issues have no political representative to take them up,” he said.

He added that in the absence of a functioning state government, basic administrative proposals from the public are being stalled. “Jammu and Kashmir needs empowered local leadership. We are reminding the Centre of its promise. If they do not act soon, people will be forced to take the next step.”

Mir also slammed the BJP over what he called “cruel silence” on the region’s status. “They stripped our state unconstitutionally on August 5, 2019, and are now refusing to even acknowledge our pain,” he said.

On the Malegaon blast case verdict announced earlier today, Mir criticised the acquittal of BJP MP Pragya Thakur and co-accused Lokesh Sharma. “This government has cleared decades-old cases against its own people. They’ve manipulated the system,” he alleged.

Mir further claimed that the BJP’s influence has extended deep into the judiciary and investigative agencies. “It is no longer about justice-it’s about power and who controls it,” he said.
