Barrackpore, 8 July (H.S.) -

In a swift operation during a Muharram procession on Tuesday, police in Kamarhati, under the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate, arrested two youths and recovered a firearm along with live ammunition. Authorities suspect the incident may be part of a broader criminal plan.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Aman Hela (25) and Pintu Sahani (25), both residents of Feder Road, Rathtala, 6 No. Bagan, under Aridaha Post Office in the Belghoria Police Station area.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Kamarhati police station intercepted the duo during the religious procession. A search led to the recovery of a 7 mm firearm and five live cartridges in their possession, police said.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and both suspects were produced before the court, where police sought custody for further interrogation. Investigators aim to determine the source of the firearm and uncover the motive behind carrying arms during a public religious gathering.

Police are also probing whether the two are connected to any organized criminal network or if they intended to disrupt the Muharram procession by executing a planned act of violence.
