Chennai, 8 July (H.S.): A devastating train accident occurred in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district, claiming the lives of three individuals, including two children, when a school van was hit by the Villupuram-Mayiladuthurai Express train at an unmanned level crossing gate near Semmankuppam. The Southern Railway has initiated an investigation and has pinned the blame on the school van driver, stating that the driver tried to cross the tracks despite the approaching train.
In a swift action, the railway authorities have dismissed the gatekeeper from service. According to reports, six students and the van driver were injured in the accident, and the injured students were rushed to the Cuddalore Government Hospital. The two children who lost their lives in the accident were identified as Niwas (12) and D. Charumathi (16), while a 55-year-old man named Annadurai died after coming into contact with a snapped electrical cable.
