Delhi, 6 July (H.S.): PM Narendra Modi highlighted Hazrat Imam Hussain's (AS) sacrifices, emphasizing his commitment to righteousness and inspiring others to uphold truth during challenges.

The sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) emphasise his commitment to righteousness. He inspires people to uphold truth in the face of adversity.

Imam Hussain (AS), grandson of Prophet Muhammad was known for his piety, knowledge, and leadership qualities.He refused to pledge allegiance to the corrupt Umayyad caliph Yazid, viewing his rule as unjust and contrary to Islamic principles. Faced with threats, Hussain journeyed towards Kufa seeking support, but was intercepted by Yazid's forces at Karbala. There, Hussain and his small, outnumbered group endured a brutal siege, with Yazid's army cutting off their water supply. After several days, a battle ensued, resulting in the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and many companions, including his son Ali Akbar, while women and children were taken captive. Hussain's sacrifice at Karbala holds immense significance for Shia Muslims, symbolizing resistance against oppression and unwavering faith, and is commemorated annually during Muharram.
