Delhi, 6 July (H.S.): A petition has been filed in the Delhi, Bombay, and Gujarat High Courts against the film 'Udaipur Files', initiated by Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind on Saturday. The petition claims the film’s trailer contains offensive remarks about Prophet Muhammad and his wives, including a controversial comment from Nupur Sharma, which could disturb national peace.
The film allegedly depicts Deoband as a center of extremism and conveys negative sentiments towards its scholars. It is claimed that the film defames a specific religious community, potentially inciting hatred and undermining social harmony. The narrative also includes references to the Gyanvapi Mosque, which are sub judice in both the Varanasi District Court and the Supreme Court.
Scheduled for release on July 11 after receiving censor clearance, the film’s respondents include the central government, censor board, and the production company, Johnny Fire Fox Media Private Limited, among others. The petition argues that the film misuses freedom of expression by presenting fabricated scenes detached from Islamic realities, asserting a bias against Muslims.
The released 2.53-minute trailer suggests a targeted portrayal of a particular religious community, infringing upon their fundamental rights.
