Bhubaneswar, 4 July (H.S.)Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹10 lakh each to the families of five Odia labourers who lost their lives in a tragic explosion at the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility of Sigachi Industries Limited in Telangana’s Sangareddy district.
The deceased have been identified as Rajnala Jagan Mohan from Ganjam, Lagnajit Duari from Tigiria in Cuttack, Manoj Raut from Balasore, Dolagobinda Sahu from Jajpur, and Chaitu Bhatra from Nabarangpur. In addition to the fatalities, three other workers from Odisha Sameer Padhi (Ganjam), Chandan Kumar Naik (Bhadrak), and Neelambar Bhadra (Nabarangpur) sustained injuries in the blast. Of the injured, Sameer Padhi is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU with 35% burn injuries but is reported to be out of danger, while Chandan and Neelambar are in stable condition and recovering in the general ward.
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, which claimed 42 lives, the Odisha government dispatched a two-member team to the site to conduct an on-ground assessment and provide support to those affected. The state’s Labour and Family Welfare Department is actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to ensure all necessary assistance including medical care, logistical aid, and compensation is being extended to the injured and the families of the deceased.
The Chief Minister expressed deep condolences and reaffirmed the government's commitment to standing with the bereaved families during this difficult time.
