Kolkata, 4 July (H.S.) -
In connection with the fatal bomb blast that killed a 13-year-old girl during alleged victory celebrations in Kaliganj, Nadia district, the West Bengal Police have arrested one more individual, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10.
A senior police official informed on Friday that the latest accused was apprehended from the Palashi area of Nadia district on Thursday night. He is scheduled to be produced before a local court on Friday. The officer further revealed that a total of 24 people have been named in the FIR, and a manhunt is underway to trace the remaining accused.
The incident took place on June 23 in Molandighi village of Kaliganj, when a group of individuals — reportedly supporters of the Trinamool Congress — allegedly began a premature victory procession ahead of the announcement of assembly bypoll results. During the rally, crude bombs were reportedly hurled, one of which fatally injured the minor girl.
Police had earlier arrested nine people in connection with the case. The victim's parents moved the Calcutta High Court on Thursday seeking justice. Given the gravity of the incident, police have intensified their search operations and continue conducting raids to apprehend other suspects.
