Dhubri (Assam), 4 July (HS): Amidst the ongoing strict drive against beef in the state, some anti-social elements are still engaged in illegal supply of banned beef. It appears that these smugglers are giving open challenge to Assam Police. The supply of banned beef from neighboring state West Bengal to Assam continues.
On Friday morning, a police team led by Uttam Rai, officer in charge of Balajan police check post under Gauripur police station, conducted a drive on the under-construction 127-B four-lane national highway. During the drive, a scooty (WB 63 D 0084) coming towards Gauripur in West Bengal was signaled to stop, but the driver disobeyed the police order. After this, the police chased and stopped the scooty and recovered 30 kgs of banned beef from it.
The police arrested the scooty driver, who has been identified as Najmal Miyan, son of Syed Ali Miyan, a resident of Tufanganj, West Bengal. Further legal proceedings have been initiated in the matter.--------------
