Hooghy, 31 July (H.S.) A shocking incident occurred on Wednesday night in Kanaipur area under Uttarpara Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, where a Trinamool Congress panchayat member, Pintu Chakraborty alias Munna, was brutally attacked by unknown miscreants with sharp weapons. He was initially rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to PG Hospital in Kolkata, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

According to local sources, the attack took place while Pintu Chakraborty was returning home from his gas agency office. Near the Kanaipur auto stand, a group of assailants suddenly ambushed him and launched a violent attack. Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers struck him repeatedly with sharp weapons, resulting in the amputation of one of his hands. Despite that, the attackers continued the assault relentlessly.

He was first taken to the nearby Kanaipur Hospital in a critical condition and later referred to PG Hospital in Kolkata. But he could not survive.

Soon after the incident, police teams from the Kanaipur outpost and Uttarpara Police Station rushed to the spot. The Commissioner of Chandannagar Police Commissionerate Amit P Jawalagi also arrived at the scene to assess the situation personally.

As per police sources, the CCTV footage from the area is being scanned to identify the attackers. However, the motive behind the brutal attack is yet to be confirmed.
