Lakhimpur (Assam), 31 July (HS): In line with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s strict policy to clear government land from encroachments, the Naoboicha Revenue Circle office has initiated preparations to evict settlers from two Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) lands.

Surveys conducted in Fukhondalani and No. 1 Kalakhawa VGR areas have identified 237 bighas and 142 bighas of encroached grazing land respectively.

The impending drive has triggered panic among over 200 families living in these areas. Many residents have reportedly begun dismantling their homes and relocating their belongings voluntarily to safer places.

Several of the settlers had built permanent houses and lived in these areas for years. With the Lakhimpur district administration set to begin eviction, fear and uncertainty now grip the affected families.
