Churachandpur (Manipur), 30 July (HS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, three individuals were apprehended in Manipur’s Churachandpur district after security forces launched a targeted operation in L. Kanan village under the jurisdiction of Behiang Police Station.

The suspects — Ginmang Haokip (40) from Hengkot, Seikholen (45) from Kipgen Veng and Lalzui Vaiphei (52) from Ngathal — were all residents of Churachandpur district. During the operation, a total of 269 soap cases containing heroin were recovered. The narcotics weighed approximately 2.95 kilograms.

In addition to the heroin, three mobile phones were confiscated, suspected to have been used for facilitating the illegal trade.

Initial inquiries suggest that the seized consignment was intended for circulation within Manipur and possibly for transit beyond the state’s borders. The arrested trio is currently in police custody, as investigations continue to uncover the extent of the trafficking network.
