Imphal, 30 July (HS): In a sustained offensive against underground networks and criminal groups, security forces in Manipur apprehended five individuals in separate operations across Imphal East and West districts on July 28 and 29. Those arrested include members of banned outfits as well as a local gang operative.

Police said on Wednesday that personnel from the security forces nabbed Md. Samir Khan alias Inao (45) from Kairang Umang Mayai Leikai under the jurisdiction of Heingang Police Station, Imphal East. He is believed to be affiliated with a local criminal group known as ‘Ningolmacha’. A .32 calibre pistol (sans magazine), one 9mm magazine, a .32 ammunition round, two 9mm rounds, and a mobile phone were seized from his possession.

On the same day, authorities arrested Thiyam Boynao Singh (47), identified as an active member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) — KCP (PWG). He was picked up from Haokip Veng, near the Mahabali riverbank in Imphal East. One Aadhaar card was recovered from him.

Further tightening the noose, a combing and cordon-and-search operation on July 29 led to the arrest of two active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military and Foreign Liaison) faction, also known as KCP (MFL).

The arrested individuals are:

Khaidem Nongpoknganba Singh of Lamlai Mayai Leikai, Imphal East. He was caught from Nongada Awang Leikai under Lamlai Police Station. Singh is suspected to have played a role in the July 10 firing incident at Napet Palli village and was allegedly involved in moving and hiding arms for the banned faction.

Thounaojam Ashokumar Singh of Leiphrakpam Mamang Leikai, Thoubal district. His arrest followed disclosures made by Nongpoknganba. He was apprehended from Langthabal Kunja, falling under Singjamei PS in Imphal West.

From the possession of the two, authorities recovered a 9mm pistol with a magazine, two mobile phones, ₹510 in cash, and an Aadhaar card.

Security forces continue to intensify their crackdown on extortion rackets and militant operatives in the state. Officials reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on criminal and insurgent activities and pledged to maintain public safety through focused intelligence-driven missions.
