Bangladeshi arrested for possessing two voter identity cards


Kolkata, 30 July (H.S.): Based on a tip-off, the police of Canning Police Station detained a man on Tuesday night from the Madhukhali Bhandari Para area under Itkhola Gram Panchayat for possessing two voter identity cards. The accused has been identified as Akbar Ali Molla.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that the he had been residing in India with the name Akbar Ali Molla for approximately 15–16 years. During the search, police recovered a Bangladeshi voter identity card from his possession, bearing the name Mohammad Akbar Ali Gazi.

Primary interrogation revealed that the accused is originally a resident of Satkhira district in Bangladesh. The police suspect that he had fraudulently obtained Indian identification documents, including a voter ID, under a different name. The police are also investigating how he entered India and managed to procure these documents.

The accused will be produced before the Alipore court on Wednesday with a prayer for police remand.
