London, July 3(HS): In the second round match of the men's singles played on Wednesday night at Wimbledon 2025, Spain's Carlos Alcaraz showcased an outstanding performance, defeating Britain's qualifier player Oli Tarvet 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round.
Tarvet, ranked 733rd, faced Alcaraz in a highly-anticipated match, buoyed by enthusiastic home support. Despite his best efforts, the experienced two-time champion overwhelmed him with powerful forehands. The 21-year-old college student from San Diego reached the main draw by winning three qualifying rounds. Confident before the match, he believed he could defeat anyone. In the first set, he created eight break points, yet Alcaraz's defense held strong, allowing him to win the set 6-1. Tarvet initially broke Alcaraz's serve in the second set for a 2-0 lead, but Alcaraz quickly regained control, securing the second set as well. In the third set, Alcaraz established a decisive lead and concluded the match with a service winner, earning applause from the crowd for both players' efforts.
After the match, Alcaraz said, First of all, I have to give big credit to Oliver. It's his second match on the tour. I just love his game to be honest.
The level he played in the first match on Centre Court, I know it's really difficult. He showed great tennis.I knew at the start that I had to be really focused and try to play my best tennis. I think today I played great tennis. Really happy about my performance. Big credit to him as well.
