Nadia, 3 July (H.S.) A three-year-old girl drowned in a pond near her house at Radhanagar village under Vishnupur police station area of Bankura district on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Supriya Bauri.

According to local sources, Supriya was playing in the courtyard when she suddenly slipped out of sight and went towards a nearby pond. A short while later, when the family noticed her missing, they began searching and saw her floating in the pond.

The family members immediately pulled her out of the water and rushed her to Radhanagar Primary Health Centre. However, doctors there declared her brought dead.

Supriya’s relative, Rama Bauri, said, “She was just inside the house. Suddenly, everything changed. We thought she was still around. We had no idea when she went towards the pond. It all happened in front of our eyes, and yet we couldn't do anything.”

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
