East Burdwan, 3 July (H.S.) A shocking case of gang rape has emerged from the Katwa police station area in East Burdwan district of West Bengal. The incident took place on Wednesday night when a married woman was returning home after attending a court hearing related to a marital dispute at the Katwa court.
As per information, the incident occurred near a poultry farm in Panjoa village. Based on the woman’s complaint, police arrested two accused, Dulal Sheikh and Bajrul Sheikh from their residence in Natungram village late Wednesday night.
Police sources said that around 8:30 PM, while the woman was on her way back home from the Panjoa bus stand, she met the duo. The woman alleged that they forcibly took her to a secluded, dark area near the poultry farm and raped her.
After the assault, the victim somehow managed to return home and informed her husband about the incident. Around 10 PM, she went to the Katwa police station along with her husband and lodged a complaint against the duo.
Following the complaint, the police arrested both accused the same night. On Thursday, they were presented before the Katwa Sub-Divisional Court. The victim was sent for a medical examination, and her confidential statement was recorded in court.
