Lucknow,
03 July (HS): On Thursday, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet accepted a motion to
dissolve the Jayaprakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) project society. The
Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) would also take up its responsibilities as
a result of the ruling. The
decision was made during a cabinet meeting presided over by Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath.
State
Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna told reporters after the cabinet meeting
that the previously formed JPNIC Society would be dissolved and the Centre will
be transferred to the Lucknow Development Authority in its current form. The project's completion, operation, and
maintenance will now be the responsibility of the LDA.
According
to the ruling, the state's entire disbursement of Rs 821.74 crore for the JPNIC
project would be classified as a loan to the LDA, which it will return over a
30-year period, Khanna said. The cabinet also authorized the LDA to develop
procedures and conditions for the project's completion, as well as to manage
its operations and maintenance through private partners. The authorities have
also been empowered to dissolve the society and terminate memberships. The
JPNIC project comprises the building of a state-of-the-art theatre, a
conference center, a contemporary sports complex, multifunctional sports
courts, and a multi-level parking facility for about 750 four-wheel vehicles.
Former
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's dream project was stopped in 2017 with the
creation of the Yogi Adityanath government in the state. An investigation into
potential wrongdoing in the project was also requested, and the project has
remained in limbo ever since.
