Kampala, July 29 (HS): Co-host Uganda has finalized its 25-member squad for the CAF African Nations Championship 2024, as announced by coach Morley Byekwaso and Fred Muhumuza. The tournament, for players from domestic leagues, will take place from August 2 to August 30 in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
Initially set for 2024, the competition was postponed to 2025 due to infrastructure issues. Vipers SC midfielder Allan Okello will captain the team, with Joel Mutakubwa and Rogers Ochan Torach as vice-captains. Uganda has participated six times but has never progressed past the group stage. The team will compete in Group C against South Africa, Niger, Guinea, and Algeria. Byekwaso expressed confidence in their preparations.
Uganda's schedule is as follows: - August 4: vs Algeria (Mandela National Stadium, Kampala)
- August 8: vs Gui nea
- August 11: vs Nigeria
- August 18: vs South Africa
