New Delhi, July 29 (H.S.): Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha resumed proceedings at 11 am on Tuesday. PM Modi praised Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's speech, noting its insight into India's security and the bravery of armed forces in Operation Sindoor on X. He also commended EAM Jaishankar’s address for effectively conveying India's stance on terrorism during Operation Sindoor. However, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned shortly after starting due to the Chairperson's refusal to discuss Jagdeep Dhankhar's resignation and a UK trade deal, causing an uproar among Opposition MPs.
Several Opposition MPs from various parties, including Congress, DMK, TMC, RJD, and the Left, protested against the Election Commission's voter roll revision in Bihar, demanding its rollback. They staged protests outside Parliament, chanting slogans like vote ki chori bandh karo (stop vote theft) and SIR wapas lo (rollback SIR). The MPs carried placards accusing the government of colluding with the Election Commission.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha about the deaths of three terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack during Operation Mahadev, asserting that they were eliminated as part of counter-terrorism efforts. Amid the Opposition's disruptions, Shah urged them to recognize the successful operation against terrorists and expressed dismay at their lack of celebration over the news. He provided details on the identities of the slain terrorists—Suleman, Afghan, and Jibran—and conveyed that prior detentions had facilitated the identification process of these terrorists after their bodies were brought to Srinagar.
The protests by opposition parties to revise the voter list in Bihar led to the Rajya Sabha's adjournment again until 2 pm. Numerous notices under Rule 267 for discussions on various contentious issues, including voter list revision and the arrest of a Catholic nun, were rejected, triggering further unrest among opposition members. A special discussion on Operation Sindoor was scheduled to begin in the Rajya Sabha later, with ongoing debates in the Lok Sabha.
Amit Shah maintained focus on the operational aspects of hunting the terrorists linked to the Pahalgam attack, claiming that an extensive investigation, involving the interrogation of over a thousand individuals, helped to piece together the events leading up to the attack and the role of the perpetrators. He specifically referenced the identification of two suspects who had facilitated shelter for the terrorists during the operation.
He remarked on the brutal nature of the Pahalgam terror attack, condemning it vehemently and expressing heartfelt condolences to the victims' families. Amit Shah's statements indicated a strong assurance from the government regarding the involvement of Pakistani nationals in the attack, supported by evidence including voter ID of two suspects and the rifles used in the incident.
As discussions continues, the expectation built for Prime Minister Modi's concluding speech later in the day, encapsulating the proceedings surrounding Operation Sindoor and its implications for national security. In parallel, the chaos stemming from the Opposition's protests posed significant challenges to maintaining order during debates, highlighting the contentious political climate surrounding electoral issues and national security topics within the current parliamentary session.
