New Delhi, July 29(HS) : Avinash Sable, India's national record holder in the 3000 meters steeplechase, has undergone successful surgery for an ACL and meniscus injury in his right knee. The typical recovery time of 6 to 8 weeks raises concerns about his participation in the World Athletics Championships 2025, set for September 13-21. Sable revealed his injury, sustained during the Monaco Diamond League, through an Instagram post, expressing determination to make a strong comeback.
During the race in Monaco, he fell at the water jump and withdrew due to pain. Post-surgery, Sable thanked Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala and the Kokilaben Hospital team, as well as the AFI, TOPS, the Sports Authority of India, Inspire Institute of Sport, Nike, and JSW Sports for their support. His personal best stands at 8 minutes 09.91 seconds.
Earlier this year, he placed 13th at the Xiamen Diamond League and eighth in Kekiao, China, while he could not complete the race in Monaco, casting uncertainty on his training plans approved by the Sports Ministry in the US.
