Biswanath (Assam), 27 July (HS): In a major crackdown, Helam police under Biswanath district recovered ₹67.69 lakh in unaccounted cash during a routine vehicle checking drive on Sunday morning. The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Pankaj Chitla and Sub-Inspector Mohibur Rahman.

According to officials, at around 9:30 am, police intercepted a Duster vehicle (AR 01 K 8909) at the Buraighat area on National Highway 15. The car was traveling from Itanagar to Guwahati. Upon inspection, a bag containing ₹67,69,100 in cash was found inside the vehicle.

When asked for documents supporting the legitimacy of the money, the two occupants of the car failed to produce any valid proof. Both were taken to Helam Police Station for further investigation.

Police identified the primary owner of the cash as Kamal Kumar, a businessman from Churu district in Rajasthan. He claimed the money was for “party payment” purposes but failed to provide any supporting documents or transaction details.

Another person, Basudev Parik, also from Gogacher area in Churu district, was accompanying Kamal Kumar and has been detained as well. Both are currently being interrogated at Helam Police Station.

Locals have hailed the police action, calling it a bold move against suspected black money operations. The seizure has raised serious concerns over large cash movement through highways without proper documentation. --------
