Guwahati, 26 July (HS): Basistha police has seized a large consignment of foreign cigarettes in a major operation. These cigarettes were caught on the national highway while being brought from Meghalaya to Guwahati. Initial investigation has revealed that there was a plan to sell these cigarettes in Assam by evading GST.
In this case, the police have arrested three smugglers from Bihar - Rajkumar Yadav, Ajay Kumar and Ram Geng Ram. All of them were caught by Basistha police with foreign cigarettes while taking them from East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya to Bihar. Police have also recovered ₹1,20,000 in cash from them.
The vehicle being used in smuggling - a four-wheeler with number ML 05 AB 3790 has also been seized. At present, intensive interrogation of the three accused is going on.
