Shahjahanpur,
26 July (HS): Three persons, including a man from Tamil Nadu, were detained on
Saturday for allegedly sponsoring a religious conversion ring linked to a
Christian missionary group, with authorities assuming they possibly got
financial aid from foreign sources. Police claimed the arrests came after
confirmation of financial help from numerous trusts. Superintendent of Police
SP Rajesh Dwivedi stated that an inquiry into a case involving a local lady,
Kiran Joshua 37, was begun following a complaint from a Hindu organization.
People suffering from infertility, financial difficulty, and domestic strife
supposedly went to Kiran for prayers, believing she held healing abilities.
Her
fame has increased tremendously, drawing enormous audiences, particularly on
Sundays, he claimed. The officer said
that after winning the people's trust by healing their diseases, they were
subjected to'mind washing' and persuaded to convert to Christianity. Dwivedi stated that police discovered prayer
materials, Bibles, and other literature from Kiran's home, and that she, along
with four others, were detained and imprisoned on July 13. Police reported that
the magistrate court granted them bail. However, subsequent research led
authorities to other members of the suspected conversion ring who assist Kiran
financially through charity. Padma
Nabhan (45) of Tamil Nadu, Kiran of Lakhimpur Kheri, and Ashneet Kumar (25), of
Shahjahanpur, were detained on Saturday, according to the officer.
