Delhi, 23 July (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to visit the UK from 23-24 July 2025 at the invitation of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This marks PM Modi's fourth visit, with discussions focusing on India-UK bilateral relations across various sectors, including trade, technology, defence, climate, health, education, and people-to-people ties. PM Modi is expected to meet King Charles III and assess the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during this visit.

Following the UK trip, PM Modi will visit the Maldives on 25-26 July 2025 as a state guest of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, where he will celebrate the 60th Independence anniversary on July 26. This visit, which is Modi's third to the Maldives, emphasizes India’s commitment to strengthening ties with its maritime neighbour, aligned with India's 'Neighbourhood First' policy and Vision MAHASAGAR. Discussions will focus on the India-Maldives Joint Vision for a ‘Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.’

A significant aspect of PM Modi's UK visit is the anticipated potential signing of a free trade agreement (FTA). Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri indicated that meetings with British officials could lead to announcements regarding the FTA, along with addressing concerns over Khalistani terrorism and energy security. Modi’s schedule includes meetings with business leaders and a dialogue with King Charles III.

India-UK relations have seen enhanced cooperation since the comprehensive strategic partnership was established in 2021, with bilateral trade exceeding $55 billion in the 2023-24 fiscal year. The UK ranks as the sixth-largest investor in India, while India maintains substantial investments in the UK.

Discussions on the FTA indicate progress following negotiations concluded on May 6, with continued communication for final details. The issue of fugitives wanted in India for economic crimes remains a topic of conversation, with efforts in extradition procedures being ongoing. Concerns over Khalistani extremism impacting social harmony in the UK have also been highlighted, alongside India's commitment to addressing energy security amidst global challenges.
