Guwahati, 21 July (HS): Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu on Monday said that clean and merit-based regular appointments will give a new direction to the technical education department. He said that the basic objective of the government is the appointment system based on eligibility and merit.
In an appointment ceremony held in the hall located in I Block of Janata Bhawan, Minister Dr. Pegu provided appointment letters to 59 assistant professors and principals of two engineering colleges. The minister said that the state government has so far given appointments to a total of 1210 various posts in seven engineering colleges and 26 polytechnic institutes.
In his address, the minister said, Our engineering colleges should not be limited to textbook knowledge only. They have to be made centers for developing skilled human resources by moving towards innovation and startups. Addressing the appointed candidates, he said, The state government has entrusted a huge responsibility on all of you and now you have to work with full dedication to enhance the quality of technical education institutions of the state.
The minister also informed that to take the model degree colleges forward, the department has also planned to appoint experienced retired teachers, so that their experience and knowledge can be taken advantage of in academic development. However, teachers who have crossed the age of 65 years will not be considered eligible under this scheme.
He also said that Industrial Revolution 5.0 is now at our doorstep, so we have to transform our educational institutions into multi-faceted education centers. With this view, diploma courses related to technical education will be started in engineering colleges and science stream degree colleges in the coming days.
Secretary of Education Department Narayan Konwar and Director of Technical Education Dhruv Jyoti Bora were also present on the occasion.7
