Thiruvananthapuram, 21 July(HS): V S Achuthanandan, former chief minister of Kerala (2006-2011) breathed his last on Monday at a corporate hospital in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The news about the death of the 102 year old founder leader of the CPI(M) was announced by the management of the SUT Hospital at 3.20 pm.

VS as he was addressed by his followers and foes alike, was admitted to the hospital on 23rd June following a cardiac arrest and since then he was on ICU in life support system. Though his health condition deteriorated a couple of times and was put on ventilator support system, Achuthanandan had showed improvement and his heart and pulse rate became normal.

Achuthanandan leaves behind his wife Vasumathi, son Arun Kumar and daughter Asha. V S. Achuthanandan is the copy book Communist and he was active till a couple of years ago. He was the most popular and honest political leader the State has seen in the last fifty years.

The last rites of Achuthanandan would be held at Alappuzha, his hometown on Wednesday, according to M V Govindan, the CPI(M) State Secretary.
