Delhi, 21 July (H.S.): Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has become the largest steel supplier for the Zojila Tunnel project, which will be India's longest road tunnel and Asia's longest bi-directional tunnel. SAIL has supplied over 31,000 tonnes of steel for this strategic initiative, which includes TMT Re-bars, Structurals, and Plates. As the project progresses towards its 2027 completion, SAIL's continuous steel supply highlights its commitment to nation-building.

The Zojila Tunnel, located at an altitude of 11,578 feet in the Himalayas, will span over 30 kilometers, offering all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh. This infrastructure project plays a vital role in enhancing civilian and military mobility along the Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway. Besides its strategic importance, the tunnel also presents significant economic opportunities for the region. SAIL's involvement reinforces its legacy of supporting key infrastructure projects in India, including the Chenab Railway Bridge, Atal Tunnel, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, and the Dhola Sadiya and Bogibeel bridges.
