Barabanki,
21 July (HS): According to police, a group of kanwariyas was reportedly
attacked by several drunk males in Uttar Pradesh's Barabanki district late
Sunday following an argument. Police stated the incident occurred around 11
p.m. in Chandoora village, and the issue was soon resolved. According to reports, two individuals have
been arrested.
Kanwariyas
were trekking from Bhagauli Tirth to Lodheswar Mahadev Temple in Ramnagar after
donating water at Prasanna Nath Mahadev Temple, which is a traditional
pilgrimage path used during the Hindu month of Shravan (Sawan) and is devoted
to Lord Shiva. An incident occurred between the kanwariyas and a group of guys
near a business. As the pilgrims
continued on, six guys intercepted them near a petrol pump between Raipur and
Chandoora and assaulted them.
The
Mohammadpur Khala police station is near to the area, and cops reacted quickly.
There
was a confrontation that turned into a minor clash, stated Circle Officer
(Fatehpur) Jagat Ram Kanaujia. Two persons have been detained, and the Kanwar
Yatra is going quietly. No injuries have been recorded, he said. Sub-divisional
Magistrate Kartikeya Singh stated that the pilgrims were securely led to the
Lodheswar Mahadev Temple under police protection. He stated that one of the
detained suspects, Durgesh, seemed to be inebriated and is being questioned. The
nature of the quarrel that sparked the confrontation was not immediately clear.
