New Delhi, July 21 (HS): PM Modi welcomed media representatives to the Monsoon Session, emphasizing the significance of the monsoon as a symbol of innovation on Monday. He noted the favorable weather conditions benefiting agriculture, with water storage three times more than in the past decade, which is set to positively impact the nation's economy.
He described the Monsoon Session as a celebration of national pride, highlighting the first hoisting of the Indian tricolor at the International Space Station, which has boosted enthusiasm for science and technology in India. Modi pointed out that this achievement will inspire future programs aimed at advancing India's capabilities in space.
The Prime Minister took pride in India's military strength, recalling the success of Operation Sindoor, where the army met its objectives in a short time, capturing global interest in India’s defense capabilities. He expressed confidence that the military achievements would inspire citizens, enhance research and innovation in defense, and create employment opportunities for the youth.
PM Modi highlighted the progress made against naxalism and terrorism, stating that the situation is improving rapidly and that hundreds of districts are now free from the influence of naxalism. He asserted that the Constitution is emerging victorious against violence, transforming erstwhile troubled areas into regions of growth.
He reiterated the importance of collective accomplishments in the Parliament, where each Member of Parliament (MP) contributes to the nation’s welfare. Modi reflected on the economic progress since 2014, noting India's ascent from 10th to a strong contender for the third-largest economy in the world. He cited the exit of 25 crore people from poverty and a drop in inflation rates as significant markers of advancement.
The Prime Minister also emphasized achievements in digital initiatives like Digital India and the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which have garnered global recognition for their contributions to financial technology. He mentioned that India now leads in real-time digital transactions.
PM Modi praised India’s progress in social security, with over 90 crore people now covered, and celebrated the country's health victory in being declared trachoma-free by the World Health Organization.
He condemned the brutal murders in Pahalgam that drew global attention to terrorism and praised the unity of political representatives from various parties in exposing terrorism's masterminds. He commended MPs for working in the national interest, creating a more favorable perception of India globally.
He urged the spirit of unity to inspire the nation further, reiterating that the Monsoon Session will reflect military strength and national capabilities while motivating citizens. PM Modi underscored the importance of collaboration among political parties for the national interest, suggesting that despite differing agendas, there could be consensus on developmental issues.
He concluded by stating that the Monsoon Session will present bills aimed at boosting the nation’s progress and enhancing citizens' empowerment, wishing all MPs fruitful debates as they engage in discussions.
