Imphal, 21 July (HS): Acting on precise intelligence, security forces in Manipur arrested a Myanmar-trained operative of the banned militant outfit PREPAK from Imphal East.
The individual, identified as Konjengbam Tomba Singh alias Laingam (38), hailing from Kontha Ahallup Makha Leikai, held the rank of self-styled Sergeant Major within the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK). Officials confirmed he had undergone military training at the outfit’s base in Tanal, Myanmar before returning to India.
Investigations have revealed that Singh remained engaged in underground activities, particularly in recruiting for PREPAK. Notably, in October 2024, he was instrumental in the induction of a new recruit into the insurgent ranks.
The arrest was made during a raid at his residence, and authorities are now focusing on tracing his network and uncovering possible larger insurgent operations. Singh is currently in police custody, with further questioning underway.
