Kolkata, 21 July (H.S.): On 21st July, from the stage of the Shahid Diwas rally at Dharmatala, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee delivered a powerful speech defending Bengali language, culture, and identity. Voicing strong opposition against the alleged “oppression” of the Bengali language, she declared that a new language movement is about to begin.

Mamata said, “I pledge to protect our language. If necessary, I am ready to sacrifice my life, but I will never tolerate this terrorism against the Bengali language.”

Reaffirming Trinamool Congress’s ideological stance, Mamata declared, “TMC's vision is clear—eliminate both the Left and the BJP.” She issued direct instructions to her party workers, “Let the protest begin on 27th July from Nanur Dibas. Organize meetings, rallies. This movement will continue till 2026 Assembly elections. Any attack on Bengal’s language or culture will not be tolerated. Stand by any migrant family if they are being harassed.”

Addressing migrant workers who work in other states, Mamata assured them, “Six new economic zones are coming up in Bengal. Work has begun at Deocha-Pachami. Industries are being set up. Come back—there will be no shortage of jobs here.”

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who recently inaugurated several projects in Asansol, she remarked, “The state government has given ₹54 crore for those projects. We provide funds, and they cut the ribbon? This will not continue.”

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP, the Chief Minister said, “They are afraid of Bengal’s progress, that is why they are targeting the state. Why this attack on the Bengali language? This land has fought for India’s independence, it is the birthplace of the Renaissance. If people are being arrested outside Bengal for simply speaking Bengali, then we’ll take the fight to Delhi.”

Recalling past agitations in Singur and Nandigram, Mamata reiterated her resolve, “I am not someone who backs down. If needed, we will launch another language movement. The soil of Bengal will not be handed over to anti-social elements.”
