Guwahati, 21 July (HS): Justice Ashutosh Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on Monday. Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Justice Ashutosh Kumar at a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Panjabari, Guwahati.
Justice Kumar has previously served as a judge in the Patna High Court and the Delhi High Court.
Among others, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the swearing-in ceremony. The Chief Minister later posted on social media, Attended the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Ashutosh Kumar, who has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. My best wishes for his tenure.
It is worth noting that Justice Kumar completed his schooling from St. Michael's High School in Patna and graduated from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University. He obtained his LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi and enrolled as an advocate of Patna High Court on July 9, 1991.
He was appointed Additional Judge of Patna High Court on May 15, 2014. He was later transferred to Delhi High Court where he took oath of office on January 7, 2015.
Justice Kumar was confirmed as permanent Judge of Patna High Court on April 21, 2016 and transferred back on November 21, 2017. He was serving as Acting Chief Justice of Patna High Court from January 2025.
