Kolkata, 21 July (H.S.) During the Shahid Diwas rally organized by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Dharmatala, Kolkata, four prominent party leaders suddenly fell ill due to the scorching heat and humidity. MP Shatrughan Sinha, former cricketer and MP Kirti Azad, MP Satabdi Roy, and MLA Madan Mitra had to be escorted off the stage and were immediately taken to SSKM Hospital for treatment.

Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad, and Satabdi Roy were discharged after preliminary treatment, while Madan Mitra remains admitted for further observation. Doctors confirmed that the leaders became unwell due to extreme heat and humidity.

The 21st of July holds deep emotional and political significance for the Trinamool Congress. It is not just a political event, but a day of remembrance and strategy, when party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee outlines the party’s roadmap for the future. Thousands of TMC workers and supporters gather from across the state to attend the rally each year.

This year, however, the weather posed a significant challenge. While the monsoon season usually brings rain during this time, this year saw intense heat and high humidity, which reportedly caused the leaders’ health issues.

On Monday morning, Birbhum MP Satabdi Roy had arrived at the event in high spirits. But shortly before the rally concluded, Madan Mitra, Shatrughan Sinha, Kirti Azad, and Satabdi Roy began to feel unwell. They were immediately moved off the stage and initially taken to the nearby medical camp. Given the seriousness of the situation, all four were then rushed to SSKM Hospital.

According to sources, Shatrughan Sinha, Satabdi Roy, and Kirti Azad left the hospital in their own vehicles after treatment, but Madan Mitra continues to be under medical observation.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally inquired about the health condition of the ailing leaders and wished them a speedy recovery.
