Imphal, 21 July (HS): In a major breakthrough against illegal arms trade, security forces in Manipur arrested three individuals from Imphal West district for their involvement in an ammunition supply racket.
The arrests were made on Sunday in Thangmeiband Khuyathong Polem Leikai during a well-coordinated operation based on actionable intelligence inputs. Those taken into custody have been identified as Konsam Uttam Singh alias Abungo (18), Ngangom Rohit Singh alias Thoi (23) and Thingujam Devid Singh alias Tony (28) — all residents of Thangmeiband area.
A massive cache of ammunition was recovered from their possession. Among the seized items were 70 rounds of INSAS ammunition, One AK magazine loaded with 26 rounds, Two empty INSAS LMG magazines, One empty INSAS rifle magazine, One empty 7.62mm SLR magazine, 67 rounds of .303 ammunition, 100 rounds of .38mm ammunition and Three rounds of 7.62mm SLR ammunition.
Officials suspect the trio's links to a wider arms trafficking network operating in the region. They remain in custody as investigations continue to trace the origin and end-users of the seized ammunition.
