Hooghly, 2 July (H.S.): Dead body of a young man was found in front of a private bank located at Town Guard Road in Chuchura town of Hooghly district on Wednesday morning. According to local residents, the youth had been lying in the same position since Tuesday night. When passersby noticed him still motionless in the morning, suspicion arose and they alerted Chuchura police station.
On information, the police arrived at the scene and rushed the youth to Imambara Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the youth had been working at a local sweetmeat shop, but had recently lost his job. Ramesh Choudhury, a worker from the same shop, identified the youth as Akash. He said, Akash had returned to the shop a few days ago asking for work again as the owner had previously dismissed him due to his alcohol addiction.
He used to remain intoxicated throughout the day. He had worked at several other sweetmeat shops before as well,” he added.
Locals said that Akash was seen asking for money from a few people on Tuesday evening. Later at night, he was spotted lying by the roadside in an inebriated state. Initially, residents assumed he was simply drunk and would wake up, but when he remained motionless the next morning, they informed the police.
Police sources said that efforts are underway to confirm the youth’s identity, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
