West Bengal, 2 July (H.S.) Two policemen were killed in a road accident that occurred in Gadhughata area under Mahishadal Police Station in East Medinipur district late on Tuesday night.

As per information, the incident occurred on Haldia-Medinipur National Highway 116 when

an uncontrolled dumper rammed into a police vehicle, causing it to collide with another vehicle and plunge into a roadside ditch. As a result, Jayanta Ghoshal, Sub inspector of Mahishadal Police Station and another police constable, Sheikh Sahana, died on the spot. Another officer sustained serious injuries and was immediately rushed to Tamluk Hospital.

Following the collision, the dumper driver fled the scene with the vehicle. However, the dumper was later intercepted and seized by the Nandakumar Police. The driver was arrested, and authorities are currently investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

East Medinipur district police superintendent Soumyadeep Bhattacharya visited the spot to assess the situation.
