Udhampur, 2 July (H.S.): Urban Local Body Safai Karamchari Union Udhampur today held a protest demonstration in front of the office of Municipal Committee Udhampur seeking redressal of their long pending demands.
The protesting Safai Karamcharis raised slogans against the Government and district administration for allegedly not considering their long pending demands despite repeated notices and reminders by the union to the concerned authorities.
The union has been demanding regularization of all eligible sanitation workers who have completed their temporary services for more than seven years, adoption of Old Pension Scheme, immediate consideration of the cases which fall under SRO 43, creation of new posts for Safai Karamcharies in the Municipal Council/Committees and abolition of the role of contractors in engaging workers.
David, District President of the Union, recalled that they had suspended their strike from 26th October 2024 to 17th November 2024 following firm assurance by the Deputy Chief Minister that their demands would be addressed within a month.
“However, even after the lapse of considerable time, no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the issues. In light of the continued inaction in fulfilment of our genuine demands, the Union may go on indefinite strike once again,” he threatened.
