Bhubaneswar, 2 July (H.S.) Odisha is set to host a high-level Energy Ministers’ Conclave later this year, in collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, a senior government official confirmed on Tuesday.

The national-level conclave will bring together Energy Ministers from across India to deliberate on key issues related to the energy transition, climate resilience, and policy innovation. Odisha will take the lead in developing a strategic framework and effective policymaking roadmap to support India’s clean energy goals.

A preparatory meeting for the conclave was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Tuesday evening. Addressing the meeting, Singh Deo emphasised that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the foundation for a Viksit Bharat by 2047 has been laid, and the energy sector will be instrumental in realising that vision.

He highlighted the state’s commitment to a climate-resilient energy strategy, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and increasing reliance on renewable energy sources, including solar power, pumped storage projects (PSPs), and green hydrogen.

“We are in the midst of a transformational shift from conventional energy sources to renewables,” Singh Deo said. “Odisha is steadily moving towards clean energy, and the Tony Blair Institute will be a key partner in facilitating this transition.”

The Odisha government had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for organising the conclave in New Delhi in June 2024. The event is expected to showcase Odisha’s innovations and progress in the energy sector, and will serve as a platform for knowledge-sharing and collaboration between states and global experts.

A wide range of stakeholders—including policymakers, technocrats, international delegates, and private sector leaders—are expected to participate in the conclave, making it a landmark event in India's energy sector discourse.

Officials indicated that the conclave will also address India’s broader net-zero ambitions, while encouraging inter-state partnerships and global cooperation in areas such as renewable energy financing, technology transfer, and energy security.
