Guwahati, 2 July (HS): Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika chaired a review meeting of the Water Resources Department through video conferencing from his office at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday. During this, he reviewed the status, progress and operational aspects of the steps taken by the department to deal with the problems of recurring floods and erosion in the state.
Minister Hazarika said that under the direction of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the department is using technical solutions in the implementation of emergency safety measures and construction of new dams. He also examined which areas of the state are still at risk of erosion or floods.
He also checked the adequacy of the materials sent to the districts and asked if additional resources are required anywhere. The minister directed the concerned officials to complete the safety works at 331 identified sensitive sites in a timely manner. He strictly instructed to maintain efficiency, transparency and financial discipline in the works, so that there is no misuse of public money.
In this meeting, Special Chief Secretary of Water Resources Department Sayedin Abbasi, Chief Engineer Bhaskar Sharma, senior officials of the department and engineers associated with the districts also participated virtually.
